About Me

I’m Andy, 56, married with two grown up sons. I am one of the non-executive Directors who work alongside the Directors and look to help them continue to grow and make Acquiesce sustainable and viable for years to come. We meet quarterly to discuss all things Acquiesce and then talk about ways that will help you all.

I’m a stroke survivor (having suffered a double stroke in May 2022), my perspective on lots of things has changed as a result of becoming disabled in the blink of an eye. I am making great progress with my rehab and recovery and I am grateful to wake up each morning (so far, so good!!!) and remain positive and present and focussed, which I think is something I have in common with the team, the Directors and the clients at Acquiesce.

I am surrounded by the most amazing people, and I count Dani and Adi in that, as they invited me to continue on the Board post stroke when I became strong enough to continue.

Experience & Qualifications

I was a SFEDI accredited business advisor – this stands for Small Firms Enterprise Development Initiative and is the government-recognized Sector Skills Organisation for enterprise and business support in the UK. It was originally founded to support small, micro, and medium-sized businesses by setting standards, developing skills, and providing resources to help them start and grow.

I started work at 16 for Natwest Bank in Liverpool City Centre and was with them doing all clerical tasks for 16 years before leaving to join Business Link Northwest where my passion for helping, supporting and advising early stage and start-up businesses grew. I was a Finance and Professional services advisor and team leader for 10 years before going back to the world of business finance in 2014 working for River Capital (originally known as MSIF).

Interests

Up until my strokes, I played tennis to a reasonable club level standard from the age of 12, and I played both 11 a side and 7 a side football until I turned 50.

I am a passionate supporter and fan of Tranmere Rovers who are my local football team, having been taken to my first game (by my mum and elder brother) some 50 years ago.

Andy version 2 has a renewed love of travelling and a lifelong love of anything with wheels and an engine. Cars, busses and planes. I am an Aviation geek and love nothing more than watching YouTube and seeing livestreams from the airports around the UK and beyond.

I love music and have a wide eclectic taste in what I choose to listen to. My favourite band who I have been lucky enough to see numerous times are The Charlatans. I love going to gigs and have continued to attend various ones as a wheelchair user (now part time user).

Fun Fact

The first gig that I took my sons to (then aged 8 and 5) which they still haven’t forgiven me for was Girls Aloud. In my defence I had just turned 40 and clearly was having a midlife crisis.

To say sorry in my own way I decided to get a couple of tattoos with their names. I have 2 different depictions of the sun, representing my two sons with their names in each one at the top of my right arm.

Favourite thing about working at Acquiesce

I feel extremely proud, lucky and blessed that Dani and Adi asked me to be part of the NED Board that they decided to form, even after they stopped being customers of MSIF.

I first met them in 2017, before the business actually started, and I remember vividly the devastating flood that happened at the centre before the complete refurb and renovation took place into the amazing surroundings that the team and the clients access every day. I recommended approval of a loan at this time to help with getting the business going as from the first time I met Adi and Dani and saw their passion, commitment, skill and motivation to make Acquiesce work, I just knew then that I wanted to get involved with them, both personally and professionally.
