About Me

My name is Tony and I have done many job roles since leaving school. I think my last career being a Class 1 HGV driver was probably my longest at around 10 years’ service. Sobriety gave me many things including a new chance in life as well as a new outlook. And wanting to help others and give back, I decided to change my career. I was told about Acquiesce by a friend in recovery and came for an informal chat. From that informal chat I began to do some Bank work and gain a little experience in this field from a professional side, then with the care, patience and guidance of all the staff here I began to grow into the Support worker role. After a few months with continued support, I gave up driving and became a full-time member of staff. I am hugely grateful to be able to use my addiction experience to help others and for Acquiesce in guiding me and giving me the knowledge of how to do this in a professional way, also for helping me continue to grow.

Experience & Qualifications

I was in addiction myself for around 35 years and since becoming completely abstinent I have attended many different day training courses through the Recovery Academy and completed various courses via in house training at Acquiesce. I also attend regular addiction meetings away from work and dedicate as much time as possible into helping others fight the disease of addiction.

Interests

I enjoy watching football. Also, I enjoy going to the Gym. Eating healthily, Meditation and spending time researching ways to improve my wellbeing, mentally, physically and spiritually.

I often attend weekend spiritual retreats around the country.

Fun Fact

I once met Murry Walker (Formula 1 commentator) at Silverstone, Brian Robson (Footballer) in Altrincham and Phil Tuffnel (Cricketer) in Ludlow

Favourite thing about working at Acquiesce

My favourite part of the job is definitely seeing the light appear behind clients’ eyes after the often-challenging beginnings they have. It truly is heartwarming to see the difference that education, care, sobriety and recognition that they are not alone in the fight against their addiction can make to their lives.
