If you’re thinking about attending inpatient alcohol rehab to get control of an alcohol addiction, you may be wondering what is involved and what you can expect from the team.
In this guide, we’re going to be explaining what Acquiesce’s inpatient alcohol rehabilitation involves, from the very first consultation to what you can expect from our aftercare.
What to Expect During the Alcohol Rehab Consultation
When you take the first step to reaching out to our team at Acquiesce, we will speak with you confidentially to book in a full consultation, either via the phone or at our treatment centre in Bolton– whatever works best for you.
This consultation is a discussion about you and your addiction. We’ll ask you a number of questions to help determine the level of treatment you require and whether you’ll need to undergo detox prior to starting the programme to remove the alcohol from your body.
We’ll also take the time to explain the different types of treatment therapies we offer and which we think will be best suited to you, although this can change during the treatment depending on what works best.
The consultation is also a great opportunity for you to ask any questions or raise any concerns you may have about our inpatient alcohol rehab.
What to Expect During Alcohol Detox
Before starting the treatment programme at Acquiesce, we first need to ensure all alcohol is removed from the body with a detox.
Detox, or detoxification, is the process of removing alcohol from the body in a safe and supervised environment, with additional help to manage the unpleasant withdrawal symptoms that may follow to prevent relapse in the first stage.
This may include administering prescribed medications such as acamprosate, disulfiram, naltrexone and nalmefene to reduce withdrawal symptoms.
Acquiesce will arrange all aspects of the detox for you, including transportation to and from the treatment centre to ensure a hassle free and seamless transition to the next stage.
What to Expect During Inpatient Alcohol Rehab Treatment
Lots of people think that if they simply remove the addictive substance from their system that they will be able to quit easily, however, this generally isn’t true for most suffering with an addiction due to the complex nature of the disease.
To understand what is involved in alcohol addiction treatment, you must first understand how an addiction actually works.
How Does an Alcohol Addiction Work?
Addictions often start out with an individual that uses alcohol to relax, enjoy themselves or relieve stress.
The more regularly the individual drinks, the greater a tolerance they develop, meaning more alcohol is required to feel the same effects they initially felt.
After some time, the individual may find that they are no longer able to relax, enjoy themselves or destress without consuming high amounts of alcohol due to the way in which the brain’s reward circuit no longer responds in the same way.
This then typically takes a toll on the individual’s mental health even further, resulting in feelings of anxiety and depression, which is often made worse by uncomfortable hangovers the morning after a night of drinking.
In some instances, they may continue to drink even more in order to avoid these feelings– and so the vicious cycle begins.
What Does Inpatient Alcohol Rehab Involve?
Treatment for alcohol addiction at Acquiesce’s inpatient rehab centre is tailored to each individual and their unique set of circumstances surrounding their addiction.
In order to deliver a bespoke treatment plan, it is important for us to understand each individual’s triggers and history, so we can help them to confront them and develop the necessary skills and knowledge to cope in a healthier way.
At Acquiesce, we offer a combination package including a wide variety of therapies, including:
Individual Intervention
One-on-one treatment that focuses on the individual’s mental health, triggers and history.
Group Therapy
Involves several other peers from the rehab centre and is a great opportunity to support and learn from each other.
12-Steps
The 12 step programme is a highly effective code of behaviour for individuals to live by in order to aid their recovery.
The 12 steps support the individual in accepting that they have a problem and to recognise that there is a solution. It also looks at mistakes individuals have made in the past and how they can make amends,
Motivational Conversations
Help motivate individuals with their recovery, both in the centre and aftercare.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy supports an individual in gaining skills, tools and resources to manage their addiction on a day-to-day basis.
It lets them look at the psychological reasons behind their actions and behaviours, and at the relationship between the way they think and their problems with alcohol.
This supports the individual to break the cycle of destructive behaviours and actions and form new healthier habits.
What to Expect from Our Inpatient Alcohol Rehab Treatment Staff
Our team of trained and experienced staff are all based onsite at our Bolton facility and they are all dedicated to helping you recover from your alcohol addiction.
As many of our team have had personal experiences with addiction and recovery, you can count on them to be understanding and completely free of judgement, helping to make you feel safe, relaxed and comfortable during your time with us.
What to Expect from Inpatient Alcohol Rehab Family Support
At Acquiesce, we understand that addiction often has a widespread and rippling effect, impacting those closest to the individual at the centre of the addiction.
The effects of addiction on family and friends can be devastating and lead to a lifetime of hurt and trust issues,
That’s why at Acquiesce, we work alongside families, providing the necessary family support to help rebuild relationships and trust, which in turn gives an individual greater purpose for recovery.
We aim to provide all concerned with a greater understanding of addiction and recovery, helping to demystify any confusion and offer clarity within the process.
What to Expect from Alcohol Rehab Aftercare
After completing the programme at Acquiesce’s inpatient rehab centre, you will continue to receive help and support as part of our standard aftercare package.
During this time, we will keep in close contact with you for the first three months after leaving rehab to help support you with your progress. We also welcome you to our aftercare groups once per week for as long as you like.
What to Expect from the Accommodation at Inpatient Alcohol Rehab
At Acquiesce, we provide private luxurious accommodation at our rehab centre. Based in Bolton, we offer an urban recovery model that helps you to integrate back into society during your recovery, helping to prepare you for everyday life once you finish treatment.
This is because many people have found that the favourable conditions of rehab, such as a manor house in the countryside, help with the initial detox but unfortunately fail to prepare them for the everyday temptations of life once they leave the rehab facility, leading to relapse.
Our accommodation is welcoming and comfortable with spacious single occupancy rooms, each with a double bed. Some of our rooms offer en suits, while others have shared bathrooms with no more than one other person.
Our spacious living area and kitchen are fully kitted out with all modern amenities, pots, pans and crockery to allow you to cook your own meals as you would at home.
